Congratulations to the North Dakota Mensa 2016 Scholarship Winners!
North Dakota Mensa named its 2016 scholarship winners. Alexandra Heisler of Cando, ND, won the $500 North Dakota Mensa Scholarship, and Bo Lauckner of Leeds, ND, won the $600 Karen Cooper Memorial Scholarship.
Alexandra is attending Minnesota State University in Moorhead, MN, majoring in Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences. Her essay emphasized her academic achievements, undergraduate research, and volunteerism. She plans to become a speech-language pathologist.
Bo is attending the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. Already certified as an EMT, paramedic, and in six other Life Support specialties, Bo is majoring in Biology with plans to become an emergency medicine physician. His essay explained how he became interested in helping others.
The Mensa Foundation conducts annual essay contests awarding college scholarships. The Foundation college scholarship program bases its awards entirely on the applicants' essays. No consideration is given for grades, academic program, financial need, or Mensa membership. The Foundation program relies on approximately 400 volunteers around the country to read and judge the essays. Winners may apply the award towards undergraduate, graduate, and non-traditional programs.
Alexandra's $500 scholarship was funded through the Foundation by North Dakota Mensa members. Bo's $600 Karen Cooper Memorial Scholarship is a regional scholarship funded entirely through the Mensa Foundation.

Mensa Canada Celebrates 50 Years
Our friends in Canada have shared that the year 2017 marks the 150th anniversary of Confederation and the 50th anniversary of Mensa Canada. As such, Mensa Canada will be holding their Annual Gathering in Canada's Capital, Ottawa.The Ottawa Mensan community is anxiously awaiting the opportunity to host you in their beautiful city on June 2-4, 2017. ND Mensa awarded Jewel at 2016 AG
For the second year in a row, ND Mensa was awarded an AML Sapphire Jewel for Class V 2015-16 at the AG. Congratulations to all the 2016 Jewel Winners.Jewel Awards are awarded for Local Group points earned for participation in Mensa during the year, based on several indicators. Local Groups are split into five classes based on membership numbers. The LG with the highest overall point total in each class is awarded the Diamond Award.
