Handbook of Green Finance: Energy Security and Sustainable Development

The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) invites submissions of original unpublished papers on green finance, energy security, and sustainable development, to be published in a book. Selected papers will be presented at a seminar to be held in an Asian country. Participation costs will be covered for one presenter of every accepted paper, who must be a citizen of an ADB member country.

Papers may deal with but not be limited to the following:

  • Financial barriers to development of renewable and green-energy projects
  • How to measure and manage credit risks of green-energy projects
  • Role of public–private partnerships in raising private sector investment in modern green-energy projects such as solar and wind; policy instruments needed to secure private capital for modern green-energy projects
  • Policy instruments needed to secure insurance and pension funds in large-scale green-energy projects such as hydropower, large solar power, and wind farms; governments’ role in fiscal policy (reform and carbon tax) in securing private investment in green-energy projects
  • How to finance and promote investments in the demand side of the green-energy market to raise energy efficiency in housing, manufacturing, transport, among others
  • Policy instruments needed to unlock the potential of commercial banks to finance green-energy projects
  • Tapping green banks and green investment banks to accelerate deployment of clean-energy technologies and projects
  • Mapping the role of new financing sources such as hometown investment trust funds in financing and investing in green-energy projects
  • The role of capital markets in promoting green-energy projects and how to secure the capital market flow of money to these projects

Submissions:

Abstracts (300 words) must be submitted no later than 30 August 2017 as a Word document containing a title, name and affiliation of the author(s), contact information, and appropriate fields (JEL classifications). However, early applications with a full paper are preferred. Only papers written in English will be considered. Authors of selected papers will be notified by 30 September or earlier. A full draft paper should be submitted by 30 November. (Date and place of seminar will be announced later.)
